Our mission, in its broadest sense, includes increasing awareness of and dialogue related to social and ecological justice issues. The group will focus its attention on specific topics that are timely, relevant and of greatest concern to the community.
Current concerns include the following:
- Training in the ministry of difficult topic facilitation
- Inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) persons in worship
- Ordination of openly LGBT persons
- Use of inclusive language
- Struggle of women in the church
- Involvement of the church in the areas of environment and social justice
- Support for individuals in the APTS community who are sensitive to social justice concerns
At the heart of Christian Social Justice is the commandment to Love Your Neighbor as Yourself. Jesus embodied this commandment by loving everyone he came across and he continues to embody it through the Church. The Gospels show Christ' heart moved by those who have been pushed to the margins of society: the sick, the poor, and the rejected. Christ in all his Glory reached out to share this glory with the cast down of the world. We believe each of us is called to share what we have with those who have not, everything from money to our social position. We must recognize ourselves in others, our liberation in the liberation of others. The mission of Corpus Christi is to learn to articulate this Good News of Christ. So that we can proclaim it with confidence, love, and hope for unity of the Body of Christ.
